Summer Woodwind Chamber Music Ensemble

FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, ADULTS, AND SENIORS

If you are a woodwind instrumentalist then the Woodwind Chamber Music ensemble is for you! The WCM musicians come together in weekly rehearsals tailored to their playing level, ensuring an enriching experience for everyone. Under the direction of Ms.Dana Brink students who play flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, and their auxiliary instruments, will enhance their individual and ensemble performance skills and watch their connection to music become stronger through the repertoire preparation process. The WCM focuses on creating a harmonious bond among the musicians, fostering a sense of unity and artistic growth, and will celebrate with a final performance towards the end of the semester.  

DURATION & DETAILS

By the end of this chamber group experience you will know how to: 

• Develop ensemble performance skills, including but not limited to: group rhythm, intonation, and movement
• Learn interpersonal skills for rehearsing chamber music effectively, such as healthy group decision making, giving and receiving constructive feedback, and making music in a collaborative environment
• Grow individual performing ability on your instrument
• Prepare an ensemble piece for a public performance

INSTRUMENTATION

• Two woodwind instruments (duo)
• Three woodwind instruments (trio)
• Four woodwind instruments (quartet: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon)
• Saxophone quartet
• Reed quintet (oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, bassoon, bass clarinet)

ATTENDANCE

A chamber group is not able to function properly without all of its members! You are kindly requested to attend all scheduled rehearsals 10 to 15 minutes earlier in order to be ready to rehearse (instrument warmed up) by the start of the class. If you are unable to attend rehearsal for any reason, please notify the instructor at least 24 hours in advance so that a make-up rehearsal can be scheduled as possible. 

WCM performers should expect to work on 1-2 pieces in a semester with the possibility for more as time allows. Repertoire will be chosen by the instructor in collaboration with the musicians of the group. Ms. Brink offers students the opportunity to learn music from both withing and outside the Western art music canon, and especially encourages the performance of works by living composers. 

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE FIRST REHEARSAL?

• Print out your music, if diseminated electronically by the instructor
• Listen to the assigned pieces a few times, following along with your part
• Practice the part using a metronome and tuner so that you feel comfortable and confident performing in the presence of others

REMINDER

A class is usually cancelled when registration is less than five (5) participants. In case of cancellation of the class, all students already enrolled will be notified immediately. Submit your registration form as soon as possible to ensure your spot.
