Summer Harp Academy

CLASS DESCRIPTION

The WVU Summer Harp Academy is a week-long harp camp featuring daily lessons, harp ensemble, master classes, ample practice time, performances, daily seminars (topics include wellness, efficient practice, performance anxiety, harp history/theory, musicianship, etc.), special guests, a finale recital, and more! Prior guest artists have included Katherine Siochi, Elizabeth Good, and Marissa Knaub. Harpists of all ages and playing levels are welcome!

SUMMER HARP ACADEMY: JUNE 4-7, 2024

SCHEDULE	10 AM - Individual Practice and Private Lessons 11AM - Harp Ensemble Rehearsal  12 PM - Lunch   1 PM - Harp Ensemble Rehearsal  2 PM - Workshop, Special Guest and/or Performance Class  3 PM - Individual Practice and Private Lessons
FEES	$200.00 + $10.00 processing fee
LOCATION	Canady Creative Arts Center, Evansdale Campus
PARKING	Parking Permit required for any students needing to park   their car at the CCA for a $20.00 additional fee
FINAL CONCERT	Friday, June 7, at 5 PM  Bloch Learning and Performance Hall

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will develop their: 

• Musicianship and technical facility at the harp - with emphasis on a relaxed hand position and good tone production
• Collaboration and ensemble performance skills in a friendly, supportive environment
• Knowledge of harp literature, history, and maintenance
• Goal setting, time management, and organizational skills
• Application of effective physical and mental practice techniques

REQUIREMENTS

• some prior experience on the harp is necessary
• Students must provide their own instrument (we have 3 harps available for use on a first come, first serve basis.)

HARP RENTAL

If you wish to rent your own harp, follow: https://www.vaharpcenter.com/ OR 1-hour daily practice time on the WVU Lyon Healy Troubadour harp is available for an additional $45 fee and $50 key deposit ($50 key deposit to be refunded on key return).

REMINDER

A class is usually cancelled when registration is less than five (5) participants. In case of cancellation of the class, all students already enrolled will be notified immediately. Submit your registration form as soon as possible to ensure your spot. We will reach out to you to process payment closer to the first day of the group class, Special discounts may be found on the registration form.
