Tyler Evans
Tyler is currently studying music education at West Virginia University, where he focuses on both classical and jazz trumpet under the guidance of Dr. Robert Sears. He actively balances his dual passions for teaching and performing, excelling in both classical and jazz music.
At WVU, Tyler has played in numerous ensembles, including holding the position of principal trumpet in the Wind Symphony since 2021. He is also a member of the Trumpet Ensemble, Brass Chamber Ensembles (2021-2024), and served as the trumpet section leader of the Marching Band (2021-2023). Additionally, he has been part of the Pep Band (2021-2022), Jazz Combo (2023), Symphony Orchestra (2023), and Jazz Ensemble 1 (2023-present). Tyler is also the trumpet player in the local funk band Adrian and The Soul Miners (2023-present).
Tyler has had the honor of performing alongside jazz artist Sean Jones at the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival. He also played principal trumpet with the WVU Wind Symphony at the 2024 CBDNA conference. His recordings include "Country Roads" by Joshua Hobbs and "Street Racer" by Dennis Eveland with the WVU Wind Symphony. Upon release, he will also feature on WVU Jazz Ensemble 1’s recording of “Andromeda.”
During the summer, Tyler enjoys teaching private lessons and band camps. He also performs in musical pits, parades, churches, memorials, bars, summer concert events, and more.
As a passionate music educator, Tyler is dedicated to inspiring his students to discover their unique musical voices and find joy in all forms of music. He emphasizes the importance of individuality and enjoyment in their musical journeys, ensuring they develop both technical skills and a deep appreciation for music.
