Ms. Blythe Walker

Singer, Voice Teacher, Children's Choral Director, Theatrical Director, Mindfulness Facilitator,(passionate amateur) historian, cook, gardener, animal lover, lover of beauty and devotee of kindness. Blythe Walker, is embracing a new chapter at WVU as a DMA student and member of the Community Music School's faculty.


Blythe is a renowned teacher, children's choral director, and is internationally acclaimed for her performances in recital, chamber music, opera, concert and musical theater. In a varied and distinguished career, Blythe’s beautiful voice, sensitive musicality, her comedic gifts and powerful dramatic acting, her inquisitive approach to the repertoire and dedication to her craft, have inspired her students, colleagues and audiences.


Metropolitan Opera National Council Winner in 1987, Ms. Walker made her Metropolitan Opera company debut in 1988 as Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, under the baton of James Levine. In addition to the Met, Blythe has performed with New York City Opera, Boston Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Orchestra of New York, NY Public Theater, NY Theatre Group, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Cincinnati Symphony, on Broadway and with many other opera companies, orchestras, festivals and theaters in the US and abroad. An adventurous and compelling recitalist dedicated to keeping the art of the song recital alive, Ms Walker was presented in her New York recital debut by the Liederkranz Foundation in 1990. Ms Walker is charter member of Concert Nova and LeVassor Chamber Players in Cincinnati and Providence Premieres, all groups dedicated to exploring vocal chamber music and championing new works.


Career highlights include meaningful collaborations with Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Peter Schickele (PDQ Bach) and performances with James Levine, Sir Charles Mackerras, Keith Lockhart, Paul Gemingnani, James Conlon, Erich Kunzel, and Jesus Lopez – Cobos. Ms Walker has been a featured performer on PBS Great Performances and on NPR, and can be heard in recording on the TELARC, RCA, Chandos and Painted Smiles labels.
