Dr. Yiwen Zhang
American Chinese pianist Yiwen Zhang, graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of
Music of the Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano
Performance. She completed her Master of Music at Boston Conservatory at Berklee
in 2017. Recently, she received her Doctoral of Musical Arts in Piano Performance
at West Virginia University. She has studied with Dr. Peter Amstutz, Dr. Lucy
Mauro, Jung-ja Kim, Benjamin Pasternack and Dr. Min Kim.
Yiwen is active as both a soloist and collaborator. As a soloist, she was the winner
of the Young Artist Concerto Competition at the West Virginia University in 2018.
She had performed with the West Virginia University Symphony Orchestra in the
US and Alicante Philharmonic Orchestra in Italy. As a collaborator, she was the
founder of the Yis Piano Duo. The Yis Duo had won the Pittsburgh Concert Society
Major Artist Audition in the Chamber Category in 2019. They also received 3rd
Place at MTNA – Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano Competition, and 2nd Prize in
the Graduate Division of The ChaMP Competition in the same year. Moreover, at
the West Virginia University, Yiwen was awarded a Graduate Assistantship for
choral accompanying. She had worked with the WVU Women's Choir, Men's Choir,
Community Choir and Vox Principalis. Currently, she serves as the choral accompanist
for the MAC Glee Chorus at the Monongalia Arts Center
Besides performing, Yiwen also enjoys teaching music lessons to the community. She has taught ABRSM and RCM exams. Currently, she is a Senior Piano Instructor at WVU Community Music Program and a teacher at Fawley Music Company.
